About The Contest
This annual competition provides an opportunity for San Antonio and surrounding area high school students to design the cover of this year’s Battle of Flowers program.
From among the hundreds of entries received annually, thirty drawings (30) are selected by a judging panel, and then framed and displayed at a reception honoring the students and their art instructors. Finalists, honorable mentions and winners are announced during this special reception and granted scholarships, with the top design used for the Band Festival program book, which has thousands of copies printed and distributed every year. The top design winner also rides in the Battle of Flowers® Parade the following day.
The goal of both the 17th Cover Art Contest is to support aspiring talent and interest for the arts at a young age. Art grants are also provided to the art teachers from the local schools that take honors at the Cover Art Contest to help them continue to encourage their student’s artistic pursuits.
