BATTLE OF FLOWERS® PARADE

FRIDAY, APRIL 24TH, 2009

Thank you for your interest in the 2009 Battle of Flowers® Parade. There are
five ways groups may participate, depending upon the amount of time, money, and energy your group wants to invest.

The Battle of Flowers® Parade is a theme parade. Each entry must have a theme (subject and/or descriptive title) which fits into the overall Parade plan, and decorations and costumes must conform to the theme. This year’s theme is “Hats Off to Texas!” and a Theme Sheet is available to help you choose an appropriate one for your entry.

Since the Parade is televised, only a limited number of entries can be accepted. The acceptance of any Entry is
subject to approval by the Parade Board, whose decision is final. Entries of political or religious nature will not be accepted. The deadline for entries is November 14, 2008.

Below for your consideration are the types of participation welcome by the Battle of Flowers® Parade:

Amusements: An amusement is a costumed group that performs some sort of act to entertain the crowd.
(They cannot just walk in costume.) Participants must be over the age of twelve (12), and the group must carry
an identifying banner.
Approximate Cost: Costumes, banner, and time to perfect the routine.

Antique Cars: An antique car for Parade purposes is defined as one built in 1939 or earlier. It must be heavily decorated and follow the theme of the Parade, with costumed participants reflecting the Parade theme.
Approximate Cost: Fee for car rental or truck rental, decorations, and costumes.

Horse Drawn Carriages and Wagons: Must be heavily decorated and follow Parade theme, with participants
and driver costumed to reflect theme.
Approximate Cost: Fee for carriage/wagon rental, plus decorations and costumes.

Floats: Remember, ours is a theme Parade and floats must conform to our theme. Due to public safety
concerns, there are very specific float requirements. Float preferable is a wire frame over a jeep. If towed, tow vehicle must also be completely decorated/covered and not appear to be a tow. Driver should not be seen.
Approximate Cost for float: Float construction and decoration, plus costumes for participants.
Entry fees: No entry fee for non-profit organizations.

Commercial Balloons: Your choice of a character or figure filled with helium to fly down the Parade route.
Approximate Cost: Fee for balloon rental, plus volunteers from your organization to handle the balloon.
A professional balloon handler will train and accompany your group down the Parade route.
